Well this weekend turned out to be a food-filled couple of days! Saturday started with a long run along the West Side Highway…have I mentioned how much I love that route? And there was actually a welcome cool breeze when I first set out! Is it possible that cooler temps are around the corner? (I absolutely love the city in the fall!)
When I got back from my run, AJ suggested brunch, and being that brunch is probably my all-time favorite weekend activity, I jumped at this brilliant idea. We decided on the Upper West Side location of Tarallucci E Vino. We were seated at an outside table and after a bruschetta appetizer, I opted for the bacon quiche with an arugula side salad – so tasty!
Late afternoon came and we meandered on over to the Boat Basin Cafe, which is my summertime NYC happy place. Rain or shine, it’s perfect to hang out with friends. I love that it’s kind of hidden – I swear, every year I forget where the entrance is and find myself wandering along West 79th street scratching my head and muttering, “I know it’s here somewhere…?”
Their margaritas aren’t half bad either 😉
While enjoying our chicken wings and drinks at Boat Basin our group made plans for Sunday afternoon brunch – 2 brunches in 1 weekend? Challenge accepted!
This time we headed downtown to Swine for a bacon-infused brunch. We all started with cocktails, their March of the Pigs (aka – Bloody Mary) was deliciously horseradish-y with a bacon flavored rim!
We decided on the Flying Pig for the table, which is basically a flight of 4 different bacons. I was literally drooling by the time it arrived at our table and completely forgot to take a picture! Fortunately I found a photo on Yelp so I can show you this crunchy, mouthwatering platter.

I followed this up with their Hangover Sandwich, which was a fried egg sandwich with even more bacon, avocado and a harissa aioli (which is basically a pepper aioli, but was not too spicy). We are now spending Sunday night in a bacon coma watching Bride Wars, and I think I’m about to go eat some vegetables. Whew! Hope you all had a lovely (less cholesterol filled?) weekend!
Question for you:
What’s your favorite brunchy indulgence?
NOMS…I want bacon now! Eggs benny is my fave brunch meal!!
