This picture made me laugh way too hard this morning. Getting up early definitely felt overrated today (especially after all of this weekend’s delicious bacon!), but since AJ was going to the gym before work I had no excuse for not getting my butt out of bed and doing a workout of my own.
I opted for another living room workout – this time I went for the Jillian Michaels Killer Buns & Thighs DVD. When I’m doing so much running, I sometimes forget to actually work on strength training my legs, and I notice when that happens because my legs will get fatigued way before the rest of me feels the burn. So I decided Monday morning was a good time to whip these quads and glutes into high gear.
I completed Level 2 (of 3) and not only did it put my legs to work, but I got a good cardio and core workout at the same time, 45 minutes well spent. And the best news? My workout is already done for the day and after work I can focus on more important things like dinner and catching up on some TV shows 🙂
After my sweat session, I decided to make a breakfast Smoothie to take with me as I headed out the door.
Or “Smothie” as the deli across the street from me likes to call it:
I was feeling chocolicious, so I threw the following ingredients into the blender:
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- 1 packet chocolate protein powder
- 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 Tbsp peanut butter
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 tsp xanthan gum
I’m new to the xanthan gum party, and if you’ve never heard of it either, it’s essentially a powdery thickening agent that makes your smoothies super thick and creamy! You can also throw a handful or two of spinach in this recipe, but I didn’t have any on hand today.
