Do you ever have a glass of wine that is just so good it blew you away? That happened to me on Saturday night. AJ and I were in for the night after our big You’ve Got Mail day and I was really feeling like an appetizer of cheese and a big glass of red wine would be perfect before our Blue Apron dinner.
I stopped by one of our local markets (Gastronomie 491) and came home with a container of Gorgonzola Dolce and a small wedge of Parmigiano-Reggiano. I sat down in front of my cheese with a big glass of this Domaine Eden Cabernet Sauvignon, 2011.
My first thought was it was very full bodied and very delicious. I sat there sipping, sniffing, and swirling, trying to identify some of the most prominent flavors. It was very aromatic and I definitely detected notes of spices and berries, there was also a subtle oaky or barky aroma.
As you might be able to see from this picture I snapped of the empty bottle, it’s mostly a Cabnernet Sauvignon, but also 14% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Merlot, and 1% Malbec. I’m on a mission to track down another bottle (or 5) of this Domaine Eden.
What’s even better is the story behind this wine. It was a gift, but I don’t know who it came from! In July, AJ threw me the most amazing Christmas-in-July themed surprise 30th birthday party. He had rented out a side room at Atwood Kitchen & Bar Room and my sister in law and a couple girlfriends did an amazing job decorating it all with lights, trees, and Santa hats before we arrived. (At the end of the night, the DJ even started playing some Christmas tunes!)
Throughout the night I got some gifts that were then thrown into a box with all the decorations we cleaned up before leaving. That box then sat in the corner of our bedroom for at least a month and a half. I didn’t rush cleaning it out because I figured it was just Christmas lights, Santa hats, a few miscellaneous holiday items. Haha well. When I did finally open it, I not only found 2 bottles of wine, but also a cupcake from the night that was shockingly still delicious looking (not that I ate it!).
So, if one of my friends who is reading this gave me this bottle, thank you, it was clearly a favorite 🙂
