Friday Favorites #11

Helloooo friends and Happy Friday to you! Let’s get right into Friday Favorites today, shall we?

Long Weekends

AJ and I both have Monday off for President’s Day (hallelujah!) and we have a busy weekend planned. Tonight is a happy hour for my sister-in-law’s birthdaySaturday we are heading to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (I’m sure anyone who knows me from growing up cannot believe these words coming from me right now. I had an irrational fear (a terror, really) of dogs for most of my life, but I’m slowly getting over it.), followed by dinner out with friends. Sunday is Valentine’s Day and AJ has some sort of surprise up his sleeve! Then, finally I have been anxious to check out the Museum of the City of New York, specifically the Jacob A. Riis exhibit, so that’s what’s on the calendar for Monday. Clearly this weekend is busy, busy, but fortunately it’s lots of good things. 🙂

Manicures

I know it’s pretty vain, but I just feel a thousand times more put together when my nails are on point. So I’ve been trying to stay on top of my nail maintenance in this new year. It’s a small indulgence, but something that makes me happy. And let’s be honest, doing my own nails never turns out all that great, plus they chip 2.5 seconds later. Last night I took a detour to my local nail salon on my way home and freshened up these fingers!

For all my Northeast PA friends, the best manicure I’ve had (probably ever) is from Plains Nails. My sister introduced me over the holidays and I fell in love. For $25, my gel manicures last an easy 3 weeks and the staff is so friendly. When I stopped in over Christmas, I was by myself but they immediately remembered me as “Bethany’s sister”, talk about remembering your customers! I wish I could go to them for all my nail needs, but alas, a 3 hour trip to a nail salon is a bit excessive.

Burt’s Bees Facial Wipes

My skin still doesn’t know if it wants to be its 13-year-old-self with breakouts or its 30-year-old-self with fine lines. I find I have be very careful using anything new because I will break out immediately and there’s nothing quite as fun as looking at your face in the mirror and noticing pimples and wrinkles.

I’ve recently discovered that I need to use some sort of facial cleansing wipe every night in addition to washing my face.

After trying out a few different brands, I’ve decided that Burt’s Bees is my absolute favorite! I must use these wipes every night, sometimes even throughout the day if I’m feeling extra sweaty or oily. Lately I’ve been loving the Pink Grapefruit for normal to oily skin, but I’m also a fan of the Cucumber & Sage for normal to dry skin (the perks of having combination oily and dry skin?).

American Museum of Natural History

On Monday evening, AJ and I headed to the American Museum of Natural History  for a lecture entitled The Pluto Encounter. I was a little leary because… “lecture”, I mean if we’re sitting there listening people talk about space and astrophysics for an hour…snooze. However, we said we wanted to do more unique things in our neighborhood, so might as well give this a shot.

Upon arrival we were directed to the Planetarium and were immediately perked up by this. It turned out to be a talk on the exploration of Pluto and the discoveries they’ve made over the past year. It was actually pretty interesting and all the images were projected onto the planetarium dome, so it really did feel like we were looking off into space. Now, I don’t know if I’d want to go back again like right now, but I’d definitely go again in a couple of months if there’s another interesting topic.

Winter Booties

I’ve been looking for a pair of booties this winter, but I find them to be tough to buy because at 5’1″, I obviously have pretty short legs and find that sometimes they cut my legs off at an awkward angle and make me look stumpy.

Last week I was doing some online “window shopping” at Express and came across these boots. I was intrigued because I liked the color and the western look. Since I had a coupon, I decided to make the purchase and see how I felt about them when they were delivered.

I actually like how they come up above my ankle and seem pretty comfortable. I think I’ll keep ’em. Well…considering I’m wearing them today, I don’t think I have much choice. 😉

And that’s a wrap for today, I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I’ll catch back up with you all on Monday!

  1. Cute booties! I’ve been looking for a good pair of tan booties, but I’m not too sure if I’ll get a lot of wear out of them since we’re heading back to warmer temps…but these are what I’m looking for! 🙂 I also feel 100x more put together with my nails done, so I’ve been keeping up with gel manicures too! Happy Valentine’s Day!!
