Happy Friday, folks! This week actually went by pretty quickly for me, I’m sure having Monday off significantly helped there, but I am certainly looking forward to the weekend!
Anyway, here’s a look at a few favorites from this past week.
By no means do I have the best NYC views from my office desk, but I do enjoy looking outside at the buildings, the Hudson River, and yes, “Hello, New Jersey!“. I snapped this shot yesterday afternoon, so nice to have a sunny, blue-skied day even if temperatures are barely hitting freezing!
Jacob Riis Exhibit
I find it fascinating to look back in time at how New York City used to be. The Lower East Side (my old ‘hood!) was the slummiest of the slums, and the stark difference between the rich and poor was shocking.
Of course that gap still exists in the world today and in Manhattan we have the wealthy “billionaire towers” rising up along Central Park juxtaposed by housing projects and homelessness mere blocks away, but it was just so eye-opening to see the conditions that people lived in these neighborhoods I’m so familiar with, just over 100 years ago.
I don’t always spend the time to make homemade salads for lunch. It’s easier to make a big batch of Farro or Quinoa salad over the weekend and have it available to bring for lunches every day, or make a quick almond butter and jelly sandwich on sandwich thins.
However, this week I opted for the salad route and topped baby spinach leaves with some cubed mozzarella, half an avocado, chicken strips, sliced almonds, and a drizzle of olive oil. So fresh and delicious! I have to make the time to do this more often.
Trader Joe’s Cocoa Truffles
These chocolate truffle candies are da bomb. We got a box for Christmas and even though I sneak a few a couple times a week, it’s like the never-ending stash. Next time you’re on a TJ’s run, sneak a box of these into your cart!!
Every May I run the Blue Cross Broad Street Run in Philadelphia with my family. This was the first “real” race I ever ran (in terms of significant miles) back in 2012, and is something I look forward to every year. Earlier this month I registered for the lottery, and I got word on Monday that I was accepted!
I’m super excited because this year my sister will be joining my cousins, aunt, and myself as we make our way down Broad Street. AJ and my brother-in-law Jesse will be in charge of waving to us as we cross the finish line and we’re talking about getting some sort of tailgate in the works.
